Reason one
There are many reasons you would feel stressed and scared about the future at the moment. We’re going through a global pandemic and everything is uncertain for most of us. However, today I suggest you lay back and try to think and see the world as a child again. Escape from reality for a few hours. Maybe you have forgotten how to act and think like a child? The Little Prince, written in French, was first published in 1943 in English and posthumously in French after the liberation of France. As it is now in the public domain, you can read it in both English and French for free, and compare the two versions in order to improve your French.

The narrator begins with a discussion on the nature of grown-ups and their inability to perceive especially important things. We are stuck at home and all longing for travel. With the Petit Prince, you will be able to travel where you could technically never go. Indeed the young prince visits many asteroids and planets before landing on earth, and takes us with him in his travels!

Despite its style as a children's book, The Little Prince makes poignant observations about life and human nature. The beauty of this story is that it touches everyone. All can identify with the character of the Petit Prince and feel safe in the poetry of this tale, sensitive or insensitive children, “grown-up” grown-ups or “childish” grown-ups, all the same, everyone will find something to take in this tale. The subjects touched by Saint-Exupéry in this book are universal and intemporal and the author himself said that as long as humanity will exist with its problems, its self-search, its pain, its loneliness, its need of love and its fear of death, the story of The Little Prince will continue resonating in all our hearts.

Les sujets abordés par Saint-Exupéry dans ce livre sont universels et intemporels et l'auteur lui-même disait que tant que l'humanité existera avec ses problèmes, sa recherche de soi, sa douleur, sa solitude, son besoin d'amour et sa peur de la mort, l'histoire du Petit Prince continuera de résonner dans tous nos cœurs.

It is a quick read and if you don’t feel like reading a book, fear not! It has been adapted in different formats. You can watch the film, read the comics or watch the series! The latest in date is the animated movie “The Little Prince” by Mark Osborne, available in English on Netflix. This adaptation has added another sub-story to the usual Little Prince tale, which I thought fit really well with the theme of childhood, grown-ups and how grown-ups have forgotten how they used to perceive the world. The story of The Little Prince has been adapted into seven other movies in the course of time, in the USSR in 1966, in Germany, in the USA, in 4D, 3D, in animated modelling clay… it has been adapted into comics and TV series. It has also been brought to the stage in France.

C'est une lecture rapide, et si vous n'avez pas envie de lire un livre, n'ayez crainte! Il a été adapté dans beaucoup de formats différents. Vous pouvez regarder le film, lire les bandes dessinées ou regarder la série. La dernière en date est le film d'animation "Le Petit Prince" de Mark Osborne, disponible en anglais sur Netflix. Cette adaptation a ajouté une autre sous-histoire au conte habituel du Petit Prince, qui, selon moi, va très bien avec le thème de l'enfance, des adultes et comment les adultes ont oublié comment ils percevaient le monde. L'histoire du Petit Prince a été adaptée dans sept autres films au fil du temps, en URSS en 1966, en Allemagne, aux États-Unis, en 4D, 3D, en pâte à modeler animée… elle a été adaptée en BD et TV séries. Il a également été mis en scène au théâtre en France.

Even if you have already read it some time ago, you will find a new meaning if you read it again.
I think I might have read it over ten times in my life. Every single one of these readings has brought different meanings to my eyes. When I first read it when I was a child, when I read it again in my teenage years and lately as a young adult, I discovered new things, new layers to this story and according to one of its morals, I try not to forget how I used to comprehend it as a child.

Je pense l'avoir lu plus de dix fois dans ma vie. Chacune de ces lectures a apporté un nouveau sens à mes yeux. Quand je l'ai lu pour la première fois enfant, quand je l'ai relu à l'adolescence et dernièrement en tant que jeune adulte, j'ai découvert de nouvelles choses, de nouvelles couches à cette histoire et selon l'une de ses morales, j'essaie de ne pas oublier comment je le comprenais enfant.

It is a big part of French culture! This book is one of the most translated books in the world, with around 382 translations sourced. It is also the most sold French book. Since 2015, the theme park ‘Futuroscope’ has an immersive theatre that showcases a 4D movie of The Little Prince. The Petit Prince also appeared on the 50 Francs banknote before the arrival of the euro, and I think this banknote might be one of my all-time favourites.

Depuis 2015, le parc à thème ‘Futuroscope’ possède un théâtre immersif qui présente un film 4D du Petit Prince. Le Petit Prince est également apparu sur le billet de 50 francs avant l'arrivée de l'euro, et je pense que ce billet est l'un de mes préférés de tous les temps.
